4-DAY MASTER CLASS WORKSHOP (three full days plus morning session on fourth day)
THE FINE ART LANDSCAPE

A rare opportunity to study with this remarkable world-renowned fine art photographer. An experience such as this comes around infrequently – those fortunate enough to attend this workshop will have an unforgettable experience.

Kenro Izu will take students to remarkable atmospheric sites such as special areas of Joshua Tree National Monument and other extraordinary venues to be announced. This is an opportunity to approach the natural scene with reverence, seeking out the spiritual and transcendental qualities of the desert landscape.

Photographers wishing to present work digitally for critique by Mr. Izu should bring their laptops and be conversant with their hardware and software. Digital projectors with standard VGA cables will be provided. If you require DVI connectors and / or adapters, please bring one to class. It is advisable to bring prints to present to Mr. Izu if possible as well as a sturdy tri-pod. Digital cameras are welcomed, as are view cameras and other formats.

BIOGRAPHY:

KENRO IZU is a well-known and collected fine art photographer. His gorgeous books are examples to all landscape photographers. Working with very large format cameras, in 1993, with his first visit to Cambodia, he began his important series, The Sacred Places Of Asia. He has continued his exploration of the world’s sacred places in South America, Egypt, the Himalayas and most recently, India and Bhutan. 1995 Izu became deeply moved by his encounters with children disfigured by land mines, and, in a remarkable instance of advocacy through photography, founded a non-profit organization, Friends Without A Border, building Angkor Hospital For Children (AHC) in January 1999. Kenro Izu is still responsible for its operations.

In his daily life, Kenro Izu is a much-sought-after advertising photographer with over 25 year’s experience in New York City where he opened his studio in 1974. His specialties are photographing jewelry, watches and cosmetics. In his other life – Izu is a well-known and collected fine art photographer. Izu is represented by the prestigious Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York. Kenro was born in Osaka, Japan.

1969 -70
Studied at Nihon University, College of Arts in Tokyo.

1970
Moved to New York City.

1974
Established Kenro Izu Studio in New York.

1979
Since the first visit to Egypt, began photographing a series of stone monuments of Middle East, Europe and South America.

1983
Start utilizing “14 x 20″ contact Platinum – Palladium printing process.
Start working a self-project, “Still Life” to date.
Since then, Izu uses exclusively, contact-printed Platinum printing process with his original negatives of 8×10, 11×14 and 14×20inchs for all of his work, in studio and on location.

1993
Since the first visit to Cambodia to photograph a series of Angkor monuments, began photographing the Sacred places of Asia.

1995
During a series of photography trips to Cambodia’s Angkor monuments, Izu became deeply moved by his encounters with children disfigured by land mines and desperate need of medical care. As a way of returning something to Cambodia where he was inspired deeply and captured many images of the Angkor, he founded a not-for profit organization, Friends Without A Border and built Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in January 1999. He has been responsible for its operation since then. This is perhaps the most remarkable advocacy result generated by a photographer in recent memory.
1997
Since the first visit to Mustang, Nepal this year, start photographing a series of Sacred places of Himalayan region.

2002
Start developing a technique of Cyanotype over Platinum – Palladium printing.

2004 – 2005
Series of exhibitions and publication of “BLUE” were released.

2002 – 2007
The series of portrait of the “BHUTAN sacred within” were released.

2008 – 2009
The series of portrait of the “INDIA sacred within” were photographed in India.
