Odyssey: The Photographs of Linda Connor at PS Art Museum

SPECIAL INVITATION: Daniell Cornell, Curator of Photography at the Palm Springs Art Museum invites you to join LINDA CONNOR in a private tour of her exhibition, Odyssey: The Photographs of Linda Connor, in the main galleries of the museum, Monday, March 29, from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

This retrospective of 75 photographs by Linda Connor features her work from 1978 to 2008. Connor travels the globe, taking photographs with a large (8 x 10) view camera. Utilizing long exposure times, she creates images intended to reveal the “essence” of objects and places. She places her negatives directly on POP (printing-out paper), which is exposed to the sun in her San Francisco garden to create contact prints. She then carefully tones her images with gold chloride to enhance their glowing, light-infused surfaces. Although her photographs recall nineteenth century travel photographs, Connor shifts their register through her process. Engaging the images on a more conceptual level, she extends their documentary sensibility, pushing them into more symbolic and metaphoric meanings. A fully-illustrated catalogue is produced by the Phoenix Art Museum in collaboration with the Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona, Tucson and published by Chronicle Books, San Francisco.
